With a little more than two weeks away from their first game, the Lancaster High School Football team has decided to hit the ground running for this years football season. Instead of waiting until the ordinary morning practice time, the boys met Sunday night and began practice at midnight.
With their helmets strapped, fingers gripping their gloves, and cleats stomping onto the field, at midnight, the boys gladly ran through a spirit line made out of cheerleaders, tigerettes, parents, friends, and sibling or simply some of their biggest fans. The purpose behind the midnight practice was to be the first team on the field before anybody else. This not only showed their eagerness but their determination to the sport, and anyone who looked through the eyes of those behind the black helmets could see that as well. Varsities own, DQ "Long Way" Adams (#44), said "I think this is a great idea to get us ready for the season and to get us hyped. Last year was kind of dull but this year we're ready. We want to make our statement so we're coming back WAY STRONGER". From the atmosphere of the room after Adams talked to me, the faces of his teammates clearly showed that they all thought the same. Their strength was proven as they practiced on speed, blocking, and a number of drills under the lights of the Beverly D. Humphrey Tiger Stadium, while other teams where asleep at home. They practiced on "Offensive Line Vs. Defensive Line (O Line VS. D Line) which helps the linemen work on technique, how physical they are and pure nastiness and another was "7 on 7" which helps skill players train on different routes and plays" says Alexeev Dismuke, one of our varsity team members (#36). "The benefit of tonight, more than anything else, is to bring the community, the kids, and everybody together in the excitement of starting the season" said Coach Valery Jackson.
The Tigers first game will be held August 29th against Mesquite Poteet at Poteet High School in Mesquite, TX. at 7:30 P.M.
