More prepared than ever for the summer heat the BI60 STEM Camp students take their drone planes out to Ferris, TX to give the flying process another go. Several students had their shades, hats, sun block, ice water, and snacks to keep them sane while they work. Shortly after arrival to their destination, the group got straight to work and begin setting up their planes, laptop, and chairs. From start to finish the group was able to fly the drone planes higher than I've ever seen them fly before. This experience was like no other when we all saw the drone soaring through the light blue cloudless sky. The instructor who was flying the plane, William Shaler, flew the drones around in many circles and directions while instructor Jamie Glover viewed the drones with the students on the computer. Together they analyzed things like the planes balance in the air and its elevation. The only problem the team ran into was facing "Mother Nature". Due to the wind changing directions, this caused the group to have to change which way they flew the drones so that they would have enough wind to force it to get moving and take off. After changing directions, the group continuded flying with no trouble at all. The camp also had some new and old faces as they reach their final session of the BI60 Flying Tigers Operation: Build & Soar Summer Camp at Lancaster High School.
