The mentors of this program act as guidance for the students as they learn in the field of engineering. There were many mentors to choose from, but I chose to speak with Mbak Itanga, because he as a mentor has shown many admirable traits of character that all of the mentors should strive for. I wasn’t entirely sure who I would choose to interview originally, but after many observations of the mentors, I’ve noticed that Mbak was extremely kind and caring towards his students and I couldn’t have chosen a more outstanding candidate.
Born on March 6th, 1985 in Ikot Ekpene - Akwa Ibom State in Southern Nigeria, Mbak grew up and was influenced by his cousin, his 1st mentor and role model, in his youth to pursue in the field of engineering which brought him to the United States where he pursued his Master’s Degree at Texas A&M. Within his chapter, he learned of a group known as SEEK / NSBE and since then has worked with SEEK for 2 years now and has enjoyed every moment he has had with the students and mentors that he has met in this program. He explains to me that he feels proud to be the of mentor of his students as he watches them progress and learn more in their activities and competitions. He personally believes that his work is becoming a major contribution to their progress as he helps them learn to cooperate with one another and to have a better understanding of the field they’re competing in. From what I viewed, he is very friendly with those around him, enjoys his time with his students and has become a proud member of SEEK.
