"Hola!" was only one of the ways I was greeted by young students at Rolling Hills Elementary School. These babies are taking part in the Pre-K/Kindergarten Bilingual Education and ESL Program.
It was an exciting sight to see children at such a young age speak two languages so fluently. They were even able to hold conversations back and forward with each other. In class they worked on their writing, math, reading and rhymes, all while speaking Spanish. I even got a chance to watch them sing the days of the week, the different seasons, and the numbers one through one-hundred. But it wasn't just enough for them to sing it as instructed, they sung to their own beat and really got into it. At a young age they have already mastered what it's like to turn something into their own and make the best of it. The teachers, like Mrs. Gonzalez and Mrs. Arana, shared with me how everyday the kids are advancing and excelling in their work. With the help of the Pre-K/Kindergarten Bilingual Education and ESL Program, these little ones are well on their way to success while extending well beyond what they have already accomplished.
